MEANING:

Sarvam sthulathanam gajendra vadhanam lambhodharam sundaram

  • Sarvam – Entire / Complete

  • Sthula-thanam – Huge-bodied / having a massive frame

  • Gajendra-vadhanam – Elephant-faced (Gajendra = elephant king; vadhanam = face)

  • Lambhodaram – Pot-bellied (Lamba = long; udara = stomach)

  • Sundaram – Beautiful

I bow to the one with a large, majestic body, the face of an elephant (Gajendra-vadana), a pot belly (Lambodara), and a beautiful, charming form.

Prasyandham madhagandha lubdha madhu-pavyaalola ganda-sthalam

  • Prasyandham – Flowing / dripping

  • Madha-gandha-lubdha – Attracted to the smell of ichor (fragrance of elephant’s rutting juice)

  • Madhu-pa – Bees (literally, those who drink honey)

  • Vyalola – Restless / wavering

  • Ghanda-sthalam – Cheek area / temples (of the head)

His cheeks are moist with the flowing ichor (fragrant liquid) of intoxication (divine bliss), and bees, drawn by the aroma, hover around his cheeks in a dance-like motion.

Dhantha-ghata vidhaari dhaari rudhiraih sindhoora shobhakaram

  • Dhantha-gatha – Entering into the tusk / attached to the tusk

  • Vidhaari-dhaari – The one who holds a splitting weapon (vidhaari = one who tears apart)

  • Rudhiraihi – With blood

  • Sindhura-shobhakaram – Shining like vermilion / red and glowing in color (sindhura = red powder, shobhakaram = glorious)

He fought with demons (symbolically, obstacles) and their blood, mixed with his vermillion (sindhura), adds to his radiance and divine aura.

Shaila suta sutam ganapatim siddhi-pradam kaamyaham

  • Vande – I bow / I salute

  • Shaila-suta-sutam – The son of the daughter of the mountain (i.e., Parvati – daughter of the mountain, so this refers to Ganesha)

  • Ganapatim – Lord of the Ganas / Ganesha

  • Siddhi-pradham – Bestower of success / achievements

  • Kaamyaham – I desire / I long for

I desire and bow to Ganapati, the son of Parvati (Shaila Suta – daughter of the mountain), the bestower of success (Siddhi-pradam).

Aadhyam tharahitha yeralava shesha saha gananapathikive kaimodpulu

  • Aadhyam = The first one / The beginning

  • Tharahitha = Without any second / unparalleled / unique

  • Yeralava = Countless

  • Shesha saha = Along with Shesha (the divine serpent) and others

  • Gananapathikive = To Lord Gananapathi

  • Kaimodpulu = Salutations / Folded hands / Devotional offerings

To the One who is the very beginning, who is without equal, and is worshipped even by the countless celestial beings like Shesha—I offer my salutations to Lord Gananapathi with folded hands.

Vighna bhaghna nimaghna varasadguna gananapathikive naa pranathulu

  • Vighna bhaghna = The destroyer of obstacles

  • Nimaghna = Immersed

  • Vara sadguna = Noble and excellent virtues

  • Gananapathikive = To Lord Gananapathi

  • Naa pranathulu = My obeisance / My salutations

To the Lord Gananapathi who is deeply immersed in and radiates excellent divine virtues, and who destroys all obstacles—I offer my humble salutations.
